About GMUKPT

The Gajanan Maharaj UK Parivar Trust (GMUKPT) is a UK-registered charitable organisation formed by a group of dedicated followers of Sant Shree Gajanan Maharaj. The primary aim of establishing the trust was to formalise and streamline its charitable activities, ensuring better transparency, governance, and accountability. The trust’s core mission is to unite devotees under the name Shree Gajanan Maharaj UK Bhakt Parivar to worship and follow the teachings of their beloved Guru (Mauli) while also engaging in various community and spiritual services. As GMUKPT continuing to grow rapidly, its primary focus is to provide a strong, supportive platform for devotees to engage spiritually, socially, and culturally. The trust also aims to further its charitable work, expanding the bhakta parivar through local volunteer groups across the UK to extend the reach of its activities and mission.
The concept of the bhakt parivar began in 2015, when a group of devotees started organizing monthly naam jaap (name chanting) sessions in Scotland. These sessions were later extended to London. In 2016, the group arranged the first Prakat Din (birth anniversary) event of Sant Shree Gajanan Maharaj in Maidstone, Kent, which continued annually until 2018. By 2019, a formal structure was established, and the trust received official charity status from the UK Charity Commission in 2020.
In February 2020, with Mauli’s grace, the trust did Pran Pratishtha of first idol of Gajanan Maharaj in the Sai Temple at East Ham. This milestone was celebrated with the Pragat Din Sohala. Then onwards, entrusted the its total management and ritual to the governing board of the temple for its continued services to the community, whist providing monthly monetary support for maintenance and temple expenses.
Despite the challenges of the COVID-19 lockdowns, the trust adapted by providing a remote platform for spiritual activities, ensuring continued engagement for devotees through virtual Upasana sessions, naam jaap, and other charitable initiatives that brought positivity and strength during difficult times.
After pandemic was over , GMUKPT has regained its momentum, organizing grand, well-attended events such as Gajanan Maharaj Prakat Din and Guru Purnima starting in 2022. These events have seen significant growth in participation, and the trust is known for its excellent organisation, timely execution, and vibrant celebrations, including palakhi processions accompanied by Dhol Tasha and Lezim Pathak.
Looking ahead, GMUKPT plans to establish the first-ever temple in the UK and Europe dedicated to Maharashtrian deities, including Vitthal Rakhumai, Sant Shree Gajanan Maharaj, and Swami Samarth. The trust is fortunate to have volunteers from diverse backgrounds but recognises the need for additional support to expand its efforts. It is actively seeking volunteers, donations, and further engagement to grow its initiatives and spread awareness.
